Hide and Unhide Pins on Pinterest
Hiding and unhiding Pinterest Pins gives users more control over what they see in their Pinterest home news feed. The Pins shown in your news feed are automatically curated by Pinterest based on people, topics, boards, and brands you follow. Hiding a Pinterest Pin involves just tapping a menu selection. Although this is a good feature, it is not exactly full featured and clear on how it actually works. Unhiding a Pin is as easy as tapping the “Undo” button. Hiding Pinterest Pins works a little differently on desktop versus the Pinterest mobile app. What’s missing is a feature that Pinners really want – the ability to see all Pins they have hidden with the option to unhide Pins if they choose.

Why Hide a Pinterest Pin?
Pins are hidden so users can adjust what content they see on their home feed. You can hide individual Pins only from your home feed. This lets Pinterest learn more about what you are not interested in. Hiding and unhiding Pins also works on advertisers’ Pins. Paid advertisements on Pinterest are called Promoted Pins. Advertisers use interest and behavior targeting and choose who they show Promoted Pins to. If a Pinterest user decides they do not like a Promoted Pin or possibly they are seeing the ad too frequently, they can choose to hide the Pins.
How to Hide a Pinterest Pin
Sometimes Pinterest Pinners hide a Pin accidentally. It is very easy to hide a Pin accidentally when using the mobile app. To hide a Pin on the Pinterest mobile app, you press and hold the Pin image, then slide your finger to the “X” icon. Unfortunately, that button is next to the button that saves the Pin. So you may find your self hiding Pins you did not intend to quite often.
It’s a big problem on the mobile app. While scrolling through images, if you linger too long while reading another image, the one under your finger is gone. Pins you weren’t even looking at get hidden and it results in an entire group of Pins gone even though you have never seen them. There should be an “unhide” feature, but there is not once you move off the page. You can only hide and unhide Pins from your Pinterest home feed. If you search for a person, topic, board, or account and scroll through the Pins, there is no option to hide and unhide any Pin.
How to Hide a Pin – Pinterest Mobile App
There is a difference between what you can hide, and how you hide Pins, on desktop Pinterest versus the Pinterest mobile app.
- Sign in to the Pinterest mobile app
- Tap the Pinterest icon on the lower left corner to go to your home newsfeed
- To hide a Pin, tap the bottom right corner of the Pin and select hide
- Press and hold any Pin and select the “X” button to hide it

How to Hide a Pin – Desktop Pinterest
Hiding and unhiding a Pin on desktop Pinterest is a little different than it is on the Pinterest mobile app. On desktop Pinterest, users can only hide Pins that are Promoted Pins. These are paid advertisements. If it’s not a Promoted Pin, then users can select “I don’t like this Pin” which is effectively the same thing as hiding. However, with an organic Pin, you will have the opportunity to tell Pinterest why you don’t like the Pin. In both cases, unhiding the Pin is the same.
- Sign in to the Pinterest in a web browser
- Tap the Pinterest icon on the upper left corner to go to your home newsfeed
- To hide a Promoted Pin, tap the three dots in the bottom right corner of the Pin image and select hide. To hide an organic Pin, tap the three dots in the bottom right corner of the Pin image and select “I don’t like this Pin.” If you want you can choose one of the reasons why, but this is optional
- Press and hold any Pin and select the “X” button to hide it
- To unhide a Pinterest Pin, tap Undo
-OR –
How to Unhide a Pinterest Pin
If you hide a Pin on accident, you can unhide it as long as you unhide it immediately. Although, there is no way to see all your hidden Pins grouped together on a board or a tab on your account. This applies to the Pinterest mobile app and desktop Pinterest. If you hide a Pin, you must unhide it immediately, or else it is gone forever.
How to Unhide a Pin – Pinterest Mobile App or Desktop Pinterest
- Once a Pin is hidden, it is covered in a dark grey overlay
- To unhide any Pin, select the Undo button on the overlay to see this Pin again
Note: You must unhide the Pin immediately or it is gone forever. There is no list of hidden Pins. You will not be able to see a list of hidden Pins to unhide them later.
Private Pins
If you want to hide your own Pins intentionally, but still want to be able to view them, then maybe you want to make your Pinterest Pins private instead of hiding them. Unfortunately, you cannot hide your own Pins. You can however, save them to a board, and them make the entire board private. That way, only you and anyone who manages your Pinterest account can see the Pins.
To Make a Pinterest Private Board
- Open Pinterest
- Choose to a board that you want to hide
- If you are on the Pinterest mobile app, press and hold the board cover image, select the pencil icon to edit the board. On desktop Pinterest, tap the pencil icon in the lower right corner, under the board’s cover image
- Slide the Visibility toggle switch to on and “Keep this board secret.”
