New Pinterest Rich Pin – The How-to Pin
Pinterest unveiled a new type of Rich Pin yesterday. It is called the How-to Pin. How-to pins are animated tutorials on anything that can be represented in steps. From fitness routines to beauty routines, How-to Pins give readers expanded explanations. The best part is, Pinners see the desired information, including full instructions and a list of supplies, without ever leaving Pinterest!
How-to pins launched today for Android devices and desktop Pinners. An update for iOS users is coming on the near future. Individuals cannot create how-to Pins. Pinterest How-to Pins are only being tested on a select group of brands.
Pinterest boasts 100 million monthly active users globally and 1 million businesses. The image intensive social channel has 50 billion Pins and over 1 billion boards.
The addition of How-to Pins to the Rich Pin family is another positive step forward to help Pinterest stand out in the growing paid social media marketplace. Facebook, Instagram and Twitter are using robust versions of audience targeting. Snap Chat is grabbing huge shares of the video viewing audience with its unique social channel. Pinterest has to keep evolving and featuring its unique features to keep up.
Many of the new How-to Pins are saved on the Pinterest Pin Picks (Pinterest’s corporate Pinterest account) How-to board. I found that many Pins were not working properly. Check out the How-to Pin with instructions on how to get sexy, toned arms! Click on the pin for individual photos and step-by-step photos with instructions.
Another good example of a How-to Pin shows you how to make whipped cream. Click on the pin and then “see more” for a list of ingredients and expanded photos.

To see a How-to pin visit, a launch partner Pinterest profile. How-to pins can also be seen in a user’s home feed if they follow a brand that has How-to pin or by searching a topic or keyword.
How-to Pins are obviously in an early rollout phase. Some of the Pins on Pin Pick’s How-To board are not How-to Pins or the collage photo was not showing. The visual search tool was not working on any How-to Pin.
