Pinterest engineering rolled out another new feature this week, Pinterest News! This newest feature rolled out to all Pinterest users on all platforms, simultaneously.
The Pinterest News tab gives shows users what the other pinners, boards, interests that they follow are doing on Pinterest. Users can see the news feed as well as other activity and messages from their account menu.
Desktop users click on the upside-down/right-side-up pin icon on their account menu pin in the upper right corner of their screens. Android device users tap the person icon, also in the upper right corner of their display. iOS users tap the same pin icon as desktop users, except that it is found at the bottom of the display.
Below is a screenshot of the desktop version.
The “You” tab is a timeline of pinners who repinned your pins (say that three times fast!) or who started following one of your boards or accounts. A recent example of a news item in my news informed me that “Adam L*, the organizer pinned 201 new pins.” Another news item read, “Suzy Q* followed Inspirational Quotes and 14 other boards.”
The news items are grouped and labeled by date, with the newest labeled as “Today’s Stories.” This additional content is not what I would typically label as news. It is more like activity or updates. If you check out the official announcement on the Pinterest blog, you will see that user comments from are not too positive.
